ABSTRACT

This chapter deliberates the use of Isrā’īliyyāt from the perspective of traditional Sunni Muslims of Wiḥdah al-Dīn, which obligates the belief in the previous sacred revelations. Some Muslims resort to the Isrā’īliyyāt, including the Torah and Bible, to understand Islam. Nevertheless, it seems confusing to use sources from other religions to understand Islam, specifically in this case of Isrā’īliyyāt. Thus, this chapter attempts to throw light on issues related to the use of Isrā’īliyyāt in Muslim scholarship. It is therefore suggested that from understanding these issues, one can make sense of the use of Isrā’īliyyāt in Muslim Scholarship.
