ABSTRACT

The chapter is a critical revision of mestizaje as it has been construed in the postcolonial longue durée, from the conquest to the present. It gives a detailed explanation of the evolution of the term, and a comparative review of relevant works and major critical directions formulated in various disciplines within the field of Latin American colonial studies. The proposed analytics of mestizaje as a dispositif aims to induce a decolonizing shift of paradigm in the aforementioned field, by promoting a critique of persistent epistemic and power dynamics that involve discursive and extradiscursive domains.
