ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I argue that it is important to integrate culturally sensitive and contextually appropriate climate change adaptation and resilience measures into peacebuilding activities. I begin by briefly summarizing real and potential climate change impacts. I then argue that based on what we know about climate change impacts, there are at least six compelling and robust claims about the relationship between climate change and the conflict cycle that together provide a strong rationale for integrating climate change adaptation and resilience into peacebuilding programs. I conclude by discussing entry points for this integration and potential obstacles.
