ABSTRACT

Natural resource programming has historically been gender-blind. Yet, oversimplifying or disregarding gender dimensions of natural resource use and control increases risk of marginalization and exclusion, ultimately limiting peacebuilding efforts in the long term. This chapter, therefore, presents opportunities to incorporate gender dimensions into peacebuilding at each stage of the conflict lifecycle. The chapter then reviews the experiences of two projects in Sudan and Colombia to illustrate how joint strategies that directly incorporate gender into programmatic initiatives can enable equitable and sustainable peacebuilding.
