ABSTRACT

Metaphysical sociology focuses on the key questions of meaning faced by all humans: Where do I come from? What should I do with my life? And what happens to me when I die? Crucial to this approach is narrative. Every culture has a body of sacred stories or myths that contain truths that guide lives and answer the meaning questions. Culture must retell these stories so that they speak to the times and provide the narratives individuals can draw on to give shape to what they experience.
