ABSTRACT
In this chapter, it is argued that previous discourses of European cosmopolitanism and the emergence of current far-right populism have to be related in an analysis, scrutinising how both discourses place the notion of ‘elite’. Situated discourses of cosmopolitanisms with respect to two discursive ideological positions for example historical anti-Semitic and intrinsic racialising boundary layers, are revisited, and the critique of cosmopolitanism as an elite project discussed. While looking at the notion of ‘elite’ in the context of centre right and far-right claims and linking this to EU mobility the normalisation of far-right anti-elite jargon is illustrated.
