ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to explain some further research topics of importance to the successful implementation of the total safety management framework. It provides the importance of implementation of the ISO 31000 risk management standard and the integration of risk management process in the organization’s business strategy. Positive impacts that safety programs can have on the business performance of the organisation include productivity improvements or capabilities to prevent negative business results that can be caused by deviations from the foreseen business plan. Irrespective of the type of industrial organisation, accidents are undesired events that can cause damage to life, property and environment. One way to enhance business performance is by influencing employees’ performance through safety interventions. Another way in which safety can influence business performance is the negative financial impact that accidents may have on the organisation in the long term future. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
