ABSTRACT

The conclusion to the overall book provides a consolidation of the main themes underpinning its content. Following a consideration of the concept of what now constitutes a “knowledge society”, the conclusion reinforces the key concepts covered throughout the book surrounding “ways of knowing” and how these are influenced by political, human and social agendas across society. Emphasis is placed upon the classifications that, ironically designed to ensure that knowledge and information is accessible and widely visible, often also serve to delineate and silo the opportunity to work within and between academic disciplines in practice. The notion of disciplinarity is revisited, alongside a consideration of the links between art and science and their connection to the processes of knowledge construction, interpretation and meaning-making in practice. The conclusion ends with an active encouragement to readers to look beyond traditional assumptions and long-held presuppositions of what is known and what is actual, in relation to the context of epistemic cognition and understanding.
