ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the connections between self-regulated learning (SRL) and evaluative judgement (EJ) based on three tenets: students’ autonomy, expertise and interrelation. Zimmerman’s multi-level model of SRL is then applied to EJ, to demonstrate how EJ could be developed according to Zimmerman’s four levels of expertise (i.e., observation, emulation, self-control, and self-regulation). Focusing on the development of mastery, this chapter uses practical examples from the classroom to help visualise the connections between SRL and EJ. Finally, it is discussed how, through the implementation of self- and peer assessment, students can develop evaluative judgements according to Zimmerman’s model.
