ABSTRACT

An innovative action research project on social justice was carried out with Norwegian career development practitioners in 2014. The project consisted of workshops in which participants were enabled to progressively explore and evaluate a range of seminal approaches to social justice in relation to careers work. This was the first time such an approach had been used and it led to a range of successful outcomes. Feedback was consistently positive across different participant groups and there was good evidence of learning in relation to career education and guidance. Practitioners particularly valued being given choices and practical examples in relation to the enactment of social justice. They also made creative and credible suggestions for further work. On this basis, it is proposed that the approach has considerable wider value for professional reflexivity and the training of career development practitioners.
