ABSTRACT

The range of possibilities to explore in art therapy is immense, through the language of visual arts and its structures and contexts, which are alternative or complementary to words. The person is moved emotionally and physically, given the implication of perception and motor skills through the use of art materials, and this allows the patient to release an unusual type of energy. Feelings, emotions and thoughts metaphorically represented in artworks create a bridge between body and mind. It reflects a complex inner world covering the most diverse life experiences accumulated in a biography: living with joy and laughter, falling in love, feeling compassion and seeking justice, but also knowing what it is to be sick and vulnerable, what loss and hurt feelings are. The structuralist perspective of art therapy aims to strengthen the personal development of the person, in any stage of life.
