ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the programs for children and adolescents, covering the therapeutic elements of the weekend, structure of the camp, importance of volunteer support and concluding thoughts. Art therapy enhanced the experience of ritual by providing a creative framework within which the participant could express feelings and gain understanding of their experiences. Programs for both the children and teens were art therapy focused, combining many opportunities to have fun, laugh, and play together with more reflective moments for contemplation, expression, and quiet conversation. Art therapy and grief education were a primary component of each program which provided a safe and non-threatening method for participants to express feelings and to memorialize their loved ones.
