ABSTRACT

The behaviour of journalists is regularly the subject of criticism yet there are codes of conduct that are meant to monitor and regulate what they may do to pursue a story. Examples are legion of reporters crossing ethical boundaries and this chapter looks at some of these while explaining how the transaction between subject and source is always problematic. Wider issues touched on include the use of over thin models in fashion shoots and how far the prevalence of freebies in the consumer magazine editorial world might influence readers.
