ABSTRACT

Feminist theologies do not claim that Christianity is the only way to bring about liberation, and indeed Christianity's sad history suggests it has not been wonderful at this. The question about Christology and inclusion is an interesting one and the place where most interreligious dialogue falls flat, since for many Christians the once and for all redemptive power of Christ is the end of the matter. For feminist theologians, however, the matter is quite different. Sociologists have demonstrated how a society can be controlled and even understood through the sexual taboos it employs and especially by means of the restrictions and boundaries it places on the female body. An appreciation of this is therefore one of the many things that are necessary if one desires a freer and more just society. Perhaps it is the word 'erotic' that causes confusion.
