Indigenous mothering and disabled children in regional Australia

Family violence occurs at persistently high rates in Australia and the national government has recently made it a policy priority. This chapter explores the intersectional experience of family violence and its impact on the lives of Indigenous mothers and their disabled children. Through presenting one woman’s narrative of mothering a disabled child, multiple constraints are identified created through deep structural inequalities, but the enabling possibilities of disability advocacy support are highlighted.
