ABSTRACT

Within this chapter we provide an overview of theories and evidence relating to the disclosure of abuse by children and young people. Using data drawn from our own empirical studies on maltreatment, we explore the degree to which this body of work takes account of the needs and circumstances of disabled children. We highlight some specific challenges regarding disclosure faced by disabled children who have experienced abuse and will suggest some features of a child-centric model of disclosure that takes account of disablism. An interactive model is presented as emergent and for further development in the field.
