ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows how different areas of the welfare states and social policies of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden have been affected and informed by the neoliberal changes of recent decades. It explores the influence of an educational method influenced by critical pedagogy on the critical learning of students of social work in a university in Sweden. The book argues that managerial policy changes have changed the way that social work in the Nordic countries defines and finds solutions to social problems. It argues that minority families and single parents are the most vulnerable groups in the process of neoliberalising child welfare. The book suggests that social work and social workers are increasingly detached from dealing with the structural and institutional aspects of social problems, and people in need of social work interventions are being made responsible for their social problems.
