ABSTRACT

This case study doesn’t simply consider an existing case of remanufacturing as an example of the Circular Economy (CE); it takes a well-known example of ‘remanufacturing’ in a product/service application – printing technology – and illustrates the approaches to prevailing circular models, how they emerged and how the associated technical solutions and business models can be continually evolved to challenge the status quo. This is exemplified by the approach of Kyocera, which has used a blend of design for longevity, replaceable consumables and leasing-based business models as part of its latest offering.
