ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of the book. The book deals with the non-philosophy of François Laruelle and relates it to educational philosophy and educational research. It focuses on the comparison of philosophy of Bernard Stiegler with Sir Ken Robinson and analyses them in the context of attention deficit disorder, technology and violence. The book examines the philosophy of Catherine Malabou in the context of notion of brain plasticity and education. In the contemporary, globalised situation, where the philosophy of education needs to be appropriate for non-European and non-developed milieux, the demand to find alternative modes of enquiry is more palpable than ever. It is to 'New French Thought' that the editors of this special edition have turned in the hope that some of the tensions, dilemmas and complexities of current sociopolitical situation may be understood, and a new philosophy of education may be fashioned from an array of contemporary French thinkers.
