ABSTRACT

We answer the research questions we have asked by collecting data. In qualitative research two methods are participant observation and document analysis. Observations are extremely important in order to see culture in action. All qualitative observations are called participant observation because the researcher is always present, and thus participating. Various kinds of documents that exist in any setting shed additional light on people's activities, what is important to them and how they wish to present themselves. All data collection comes from a paternalistic, somewhat unbalanced power structure and as part of research reflexivity we must try to enable two-way understanding, to meet and learn about each other, as much as possible.
