ABSTRACT

This chapter is about anxiety disorders and exercise. You will find information about panic disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Further there is a review about the current state of research for the effect of exercise on anxiety disorders. Afterwards different kinds of exercise often used in research are discussed and psychological and biological mechanisms of action are illustrated. The last part deals with the question of whether exercise is safe for panic patients.
