ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests that their history and development explain why coaching and psychometrics have influenced each other less than they might. It suggests why and how psychometric tests are used in coaching practice now, and the changes psychometric testing might undergo under social, technological, and research influences. These include developments in gamification, social media, video conferencing and the needs of coaches as the practice expands. The chapter raises warnings about the dangers of oversimplifying based on test results but ultimately argues that the two areas are growing closer and that psychometrics has a role to play in effective, professional coaching.
