ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 examines the higher education (HE) sector’s engagement with the Olympics using evidence from the 2000 Sydney, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Discussed are the role of the HE sector in supporting the Games as well as in making the most of the opportunities provided by the event. The specific leveraging strategies used by various institutions for building teaching and research capacities are also examined.
