ABSTRACT

Women in leadership have some currency in contemporary Scotland. Engaging agencies from Scotland’s distinctive political community and civil society, the debate highlights the nation’s socially progressive aspirations. As part of civil society, Scotland’s sports governance network is well placed to align with this debate and to address gender inequality in leadership in sport differently from the UK. Our analysis reveals that the potential cross-fertilisation of ideas and action has too often been neglected, re-positioning gender as an organising social mechanism that advantages some and constrains others.
