ABSTRACT

The chapter highlights the representation of women in leadership position in Norwegian sports. The data are discussed in the light of the strategy of gender quota regulation, which was implemented in Norwegian Sport in 1990. Twenty-five years later the percentage of female executive board members in Norwegian sports has increased to 40%, which seems to be one of the highest worldwide. The quota regulation does not account for the election of presidents, only 13% of the presidents are women. The low number of female presidentships is discussed in relation to gendered cultural and organisational barriers.
