ABSTRACT

There are at least two thousand children with AIDS or AIDS related complex (ARC) in America today. Eighty-five percent inherited their condition from parents who are intravenous drug users. Dr. Aryeh Rubenstein, a pioneer in pediatric AIDS, conducted a preliminary investigation at Albert Einstein Hospital in New York, comparing fourteen infected children given IVIG with fourteen untreated children. Dr. Mathilde Krim, founding chair of the American Foundation for AIDS Research, recently testified before a federal subcommittee that "no trial in CDC-defined AIDS should use a placebo in control groups." The Community Research Initiative (CRI) is an independent organization carrying out their own protocols. According to Christopher Babick, a person with AIDS affiliated with CRI, When a promising new drug comes along, it is imperative that it be made available to all people with AIDS.
