ABSTRACT

There are few research studies on teaching Persian literature comprehension to foreign Persian literature students. This chapter explores for the first time the effects of a combined approach using two visual strategies – dramatic structure pyramid and story map – on understanding Kalileh o Demneh. The findings of this quantitative research show that the performance of Persian learners in the experimental group to identify story elements and to understand narrative texts has increased significantly in the post-test scores. The results of this study help students to develop their ability to understand Persian narrative texts, as well as teachers to apply this combined approach using visual strategies in their lesson plans and classroom activities.
