ABSTRACT

Participatory actors decreased the amount of time for family and other social interactions in order to dedicate more time to social involvement. They preferred oral communication and technology that supports social relationships, whereas non-actors leaned towards visual communication and technology with unidirectional messages. Data on level and frequency of societal participation, use of the mobile phone and socio-demographic variables were collected by means a phone survey of 7254 participants.
