ABSTRACT

The new criminal law that came into force immediately before the start of the Second World War served, as a terror instrument to maintain the Wehrmacht and the population's "will to continue." The Vienna branch of the central court was a military court for soldiers in the army reserves, that is, those who were assigned either to the military hospitals' reserve units, to work, or to training companies. Denunciation can be understood as a communicative and historical phenomenon that transcends societies, is associated with many-sided tensions and conflicts which one tries to "solve" with the appeal to an authority, and results in punishment and exclusion of a person from society. Denunciations have to be seen as essential components of everyday life under Nazism affecting almost every aspect of life. In 1943 and 1944, the cases of "subversion of the armed forces" in general increased massively.
