ABSTRACT

Organizations develop, in some cases, intricate programs for reaching and attracting recruits. They may advertise in journals and newspapers or other media, employ public relations firms, or form hiring departments which search out recruits with appropriate backgrounds and education. Associates in one firm supposedly play bridge all afternoon and then have to work all night. Some offices are known as "friendly" firms where everyone knows everyone else and social life continues outside the firm. Certain offices are known not to hire female or Italian lawyers. Competition for lawyers among the large firms in New York City is limited in two major ways: the firms will not pirate an employee from another law office, and they maintain a gentlemen's agreement to pay the same beginning salary, commonly called the going rate. The law firms send representatives to visit the law schools. Student body at Indiana University law school, no one stated that he wanted to go to Wall Street.
