ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explains six major themes: an elucidation of Creative Studies as a program that fundamentally concentrates on increasing the probability of more and deeper "aha" experiences for each learner and a historical perspective of his own involvement in this effort. It also includes an explanation of the development of a comprehensive, eclectic program at Buffalo, the base of corroborative research for the program and our shift in emphasis toward a strong balance between imagination and spontaneity versus judgment and implementation. Finally, the relationship of this "balance" to society's stance toward the present and future. The typical "aha" experience may be considered to be the result of the new connection of elements residing inside our mind and/or within our perceptual field. Fundamental principles of Osborn's model involve combining, adapting, and modifying, and we have tried to apply these principles as fully as possible.
