ABSTRACT
What happens to the personality of someone who is tugged between the two sides in a racial situation? This is the problem of marginality, at least so far as race relations are concerned. At first sight marginality appears quite a simple issue to which a straightforward solution is readily available. However, on closer inspection the question is entangled in qualifications so important that the notion of marginality itself is jeopardized.
