The NTU approach to psychotherapy was built upon the philosophy of the Afrocentric worldview toward overall healing that supports the model of positive mental health. The treatment approach will discuss the conceptualization and therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from the theoretical framework of the African Model of Positive Mental Health and the NTU therapy. The need for connectedness is closely related to the communal nature of people of African descent. In fact, researchers have found that this communal nature serves to improve one's well-being. Researchers believe that the African American therapeutic experience is unique because of the cultural factors that come into play.
