ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the two Notes on Representation. The first note consists of a rough attempt to distinguish some of their main senses or rather families of senses. The second note will consist of a few remarks on the question of just representation. There are two descriptive senses. In these senses the answer to the questions consists of some kind of an account of American representational institutions. In the first, the answer would consist of a summary analysis of the relevant provisions of federal, state, and local constitutions and laws. In the second, it would be made up of a more "realistic" study of what happens in practice, for example, of the relevant court decisions, the behavior of political parties, and the like.
