ABSTRACT
The chapters in the first section depict how rumors can interfere with economic exchanges, damage social relationships, and undermine social institutions that provide coherence and identity. So why do people pass along rumors? Why do they cooperate in spreading information that has such distressing effects on social life? The papers in this second section help us understand why rumors spread.
