ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the relationship among the complexity of the absorptive capability of knowledge recipients, the motivation of recipients, and knowledge transfer. It focuses on knowledge transfer from Japanese multinationals operating in China from knowledge recipient’s perspective. The chapter addresses the impact of characteristics of the knowledge recipient on the successful transfer of knowledge. It discusses the hypotheses and proposes a research model and presents the research methodology, and also discusses their implications. The chapter outlines the contribution to research, the study’s implications for managers, its limitations, and suggests future research directions. The present research investigates how the characteristics of a knowledge recipient are associated with the successful transfer of knowledge. Future research should examine potential causal relationships between the knowledge recipient and the transfer mechanisms. Researchers interested in the topic should consider expanding the scope of the study to include the role of the characteristics of a knowledge provider to facilitate knowledge transfer.
