ABSTRACT

The Jews living in Germany would be encouraged, if for no other reason, than because a functioning Jewish community in Germany, that is, a living contract, is eminently in the Jewish interest. Martin Buber once likened Germany to "Nineveh, the great city" and its people for whom the Lord cares, if and when their minds turn from their evil ways. Leo Trapp has spoken about the antagonism between Jews of German and East European derivation in America. Jewish representatives, some of them self-appointed, some properly delegated, have gone to Germany on fact-finding missions. Officials begin to get tired of useless gestures of support for Jewish causes and left-wing youth turns shrilly against an Israel that appears to them as the agent of an evil imperialistic power. The restored Rashi Synagogue in Worms, the Museum and the Chapels in Dachau, the modern Jewish Gemeindehaus in Berlin would be worthy of a visit.
