ABSTRACT

Television has had a pervasive influence on schooling and scholarship. This chapter refers to facts and fantasies about television and school achievement places that article among the top ten of the plethora. The intelligence quotient test and resultant score has for some time been designated as a dubious measure of intelligence, and its relationship to achievement is not clearly definable. Several scores must be compiled and averaged to be used as a significant measure, and the information is most valuable when combined with other relevant data such as school achievement. A few years make a significant difference when research studies are considered. When the years are not defined in number, the statement loses significance. Most freshmen college students are taught about loaded words and their use and abuse.
