ABSTRACT

In the 16 years since Pakistan achieved independence, an increase in population and a total increase of more than 500 percent in industrial production have rapidly intensified the demand for mineral raw materials. As a result, mineral exploration and development have been stressed in both the First Five Year Plan and the Second Five Year Plan, under way. The cooperative Mineral Exploration and Development Program in Pakistan, which involves all aspects of geological and mining investigations, is one of the most comprehensive efforts being made in a newly independent nation to increase the discovery, appraisal, production, and utilization of indigenous mineral raw materials. The Mineral Exploration and Development Program includes three closely integrated sub-programs: geological survey consulting service; geological exploration and resource appraisal; and mining technology and development. One of the principal goals of the Mineral Exploration and Development Program is publication of maps and reports giving the results of the technical projects for use in resource development.
