ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the results of a survey of all American Psychological Association (APA) members, concerning their possible interest in working in one of seven functions of psychologists in government and community programs. Requests have often come to APA headquarters for psychologists for certain positions. There is a great expansion in federal, state, and local public programs. Psychologists are being sought for positions on all levels. Many of these positions cannot be classified in the usual categories because they do not require this or the psychological specialization. A brief questionnaire, entitled "Survey on Psychologists Availability for Positions in Government," was sent to all 19,199 members and fellows of the APA listed in the 1965 APA Directory. Although there had been no place indicated on the questionnaire for writing name and address, many of the respondents did write their name and usually the address.
