ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the results of questionnaire which was sent to the departments of psychology that had been approved by the Education and Training Board of American Psychological Association (APA). The same questionnaire was used to obtain information about practicum instruction in the four specialties of clinical, counseling, industrial, and school psychology. The questionnaire elicited little in the way of new or unique ideas about the training of clinical psychologists. Perhaps there is more change than has been reflected in the answers to the questionnaire. The chapter contains the clinical psychology information in the following order: numerical findings for each graduate year; observations of the author about responses to the write-in questions; comparisons between schools approved by the APA for clinical training and those not approved. The chapter describes the typical situation with regard to the provision of practicum training. It seemed worthwhile to include some of the problems expressed by the individuals responsible for practicum training.
