The breadth of Irving Louis Horowitz’s scholarly interests and accomplishments is truly prodigious. Those who know him can attest to his ability to grasp the essence of an idea or a situation with intimidating speed and skill. Not only is he a perceptive observer, but he also links his observations to a formidable array of knowledge about any number of topics, and couples it with a solid grounding in the foundations of twentieth-century social thought.
