ABSTRACT

Gernot Böhme is professor emeritus of philosophy of the Technsiche Universität Darmstadt, Germany. He studied physics, mathematics, and philosophy. From 1969 to 1977, he was a research fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute, Starnberg (Habermas, v. Weizsäcker). His main fields of interest are classical philosophy, social studies of science, philosophical anthropology, philosophy of nature, theory of time, aesthetics, ethics, and Goethe. Böhme has published 30 books and more than 200 articles. Among his recent publications in English The Knowledge Society (co-editcd with Nico Stehr, 1986); Coping with Science (1992); and Ethics in Context: The Art of Dealing with Serious Questions (2001).
