ABSTRACT

A note from the editor : In her presentation, Miriam Ben-David called her late husband “Yossi.” This was the name his friends used. After I finished my PhD, he told me to call him by this name too, but I never could. He remained for me then, and remains for me still, “Professor Ben-David,” a figure of too much authority to allow such familiarity. I therefore substituted “JBD” for every instance of “Yossi” in Miriam’s comments to photographs she presented.
