This retrospective essay focuses on Essay VII, “The Next Five Years: Modi fying Political Tactics” one of three final chapters in The Politics of the Black “Nation” (hereafter: The Black “Nation” ) in which Matthew Holden, Jr. discusses strategies for change. Before turning to the retrospective critique of this specific essay, I should like to discuss the overall volume and its contributions to the development of the black politics field.
