ABSTRACT

The Valley of the Kings lies in a deep ravine in the limestone cliffs of Qurna on the west bank of Luxor. The kings of the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasties chose this valley for their tombs because they considered it a divine place. Of all the sites in Egypt, this is the most magical, with secret tombs lying hidden beneath a pyramid-shaped mountain. A  total of sixty-four tombs have been discovered in this silent valley, but actually only twenty-six of these tombs belonged to kings. The others belonged to queens of the Eighteenth Dynasty, the royal family, and high officials. It is the dream of every archaeologist to excavate in the Valley of the Kings, but sadly not one of these aforementioned discoveries of tombs in the valley can be credited to an Egyptian archaeologist.
