ABSTRACT

Since 1976, there has been an increased attention on enrollment for public higher education institutions, which over the years has developed into enrollment strategies. In the state of Oregon, econometric models have been used since the 1986–1987 academic year for Oregon's community college enrollment. Using models for predicting enrollment has become crucial in determining what higher education institution requirements will be in the upcoming future. A major reason for an increased attention in enrollment is due to funding issues on how institutions are funded by state entities. There are two models used by two very different institutions. The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) is a public research university that has select admission standards and strongly caters to science, technology, engineering, and math disciplines. West Virginia University (WVU) was founded in 1867 and targeted education in agriculture and engineering. Two types of student groups that are being heavily recruited by institutions nationally are international students and online students.
