ABSTRACT

This chapter aims at shedding more light into the possibilities of integrating the European dimension in education through three lesson proposals that focus on different aspects of this dimension, namely language learning by children with a migration background, knowledge of European geography and history through the discovery of European monuments, and encouragement to mobility in a virtual backpacking journey through Central Europe. Each lesson is organised in three sections: the first section provides the theoretical background to the lesson; the second section gives an overview of the lesson, its main aims and target audience; finally, the third section presents a detailed description of the lesson’s stages and activities, including a lesson plan and sample resources designed to provide teachers with tools that can be used and adapted in their own contexts. All lessons are the product of international collaborative work conducted by pre-service teachers coming from four European universities and based on original lesson plans created during the HOWBET Summer School.
