ABSTRACT

While considering the literature review in Chapter 6, the authors of Chapter 7 provide recommendations for clinicians working with neurotypical siblings. Recommendations are grouped into six categories: (a) The importance of sibling relationships; (b) Burden of present and future caregiving choices; (c) Impact on peer relationships; (d) Strained relationship with parents; (e) Increased emotional awareness, and (f) Sense of fulfillment. Each topic discussed also includes suggestions on how to effectively engage neurotypical siblings in therapeutic settings and provides practical tools that families can use at home.
