ABSTRACT

Despite a considerable growth of research into the outcomes of peace processes following war, the factors necessary for successful peacebuilding remain elusive. This introductory chapter offers the Quality Peace framework to explore the conditions necessary for the existence of quality and sustainable peace following civil wars. The framework serves as the underlying concept explored throughout the chapters of this volume through both case studies and theoretical debate. The Quality Peace framework consists of the five dimensions necessary for the emergence of quality peace following the acceptance of Comprehensive Peace Agreements (CPAs). To do this, brief introductions to each chapter are contained within this introduction, and are threaded together to exemplify the necessary five dimensions.
